On May 6 the town of Hackleburg held a press conference that was covered by most major news outlets, both TV and newspapers. If you watch the local news you may get some information, but so far they have not given to much specifically on Hackleburg
Points of interest:
- We are not turning any supplies or people away (Supplies still need to go to the Distribution Center Drop off at 800 Bexar Ave. East Hamilton, AL 35570)
- Information on having to fill out applications or check in for volunteers outside of town is not true. This only applies if you are going through the Red Cross or other national groups.
- To volunteer still come into town. Tell the check point personnel you are volunteering in Hackleburg. Follow the signs for “Staging” to the corner of Hwy. 172 and Culpepper Road (just a 1/4 mile down from the ‘old’ location)
- It is not true that you have to have hard hats, steel toe shoes, or any other safety equipment. If you have them bring them. Then you will be able to do work that you could not do without them. But all Volunteers are needed.
- If you are wanting to volunteer this weekend, the focus is still on debris clean up. Things that would help would be garbage bags, large garbage cans, and work gloves.
For clarification our information is coming directly from the Chief of Police Kenny Hallmark and those in those meetings. This site, updates, and our Facebook (www.facebook.com/HackleburgHelpingHands) is all By the People, For the People!
